When you hear the word oasis, what comes to mind? A quiet haven? A patch of green in the middle of endless sand? That’s what I pictured—and this year, I found myself building my own. I’ve never been known for having a green thumb—someone once said I could even kill plastic plants. So when life grew heavy, I was surprised to feel a sudden pull to bring plants—real, living, green plants—into my home. I resisted the idea at first. I could already picture the sad remains being carried out to what I jokingly call Plant Cemetery, but the urge grew stronger. Eventually, I bought a charming plant stand with grow lights. It stood assembled in the corner—ready, but empty. One day, my green-thumbed brother-in-law gave me the encouragement I needed: “Go for it.” He sent links to easy-care plants, and by day’s end, I brought home ten thriving plants in white pots. Now, I think most of us can agree—the past few years have felt rough. Politically. Spiritually. Emotionally. It seems we can barely catch our breath before another wave of noise and news crashes in. I’m no exception. Add prayers that seem unanswered, loss or setbacks, and it’s easy to feel stranded in a scorching desert. That’s when we crave a respite. Hence the word: Oasis. In the natural world, an oasis is described as life hidden beneath barren ground—water quietly rising where nothing should grow. Spiritually, it’s a refuge for the soul—a sacred place of nourishment, replenishment, and the promise that life can still flourish in the driest places. I didn’t know it yet, but in purchasing those plants, I was shaking off the negative labels I had pinned on myself, while also creating a sanctuary of renewal—all guided by a divine nudge leading me through a weary season right at home. As I tended each plant, learning its name and needs, I felt God near—as if He were quietly saying, Never accept that you can’t succeed. I want you to have this oasis, to see that your life is still growing and moving, even if all around appears differently. It’s been five months now, and the plants are thriving. I often sit near my corner of peace to think, pray, or simply be. Every day I see them, I feel hope—a reminder that even in desert places, God is still working. That’s why, when I considered what to share this month, I knew it had to be this encouragement: Just like an oasis in the desert, where water flows quietly beneath the surface long before it’s seen, God is still moving beneath the surface of our lives. Even when nothing shifts and hope feels distant, His Spirit is working—shaping and preparing great things for us. So wherever you find yourself today—whatever challenges you face—a place of comfort may be closer than you think. It could be hidden right under your feet,
up ahead in the distance,
or waiting for you to build it right where you are. For oases aren’t just plants or quiet corners—they’re found in prayers, laughter, and moments with the right person. At times, you can be the refuge that helps someone not give up. I’m glad I listened to my gut feeling—and I hope you listen to yours. Sometimes our intuition is God planting courage where fear used to live, calling us to step into something greater than we planned. Even in a desert season of past failures or waning hope, His presence runs deep—like unseen water beneath the sand, quietly nourishing new life. Isaiah 43:19–20 reads: “See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.” What a beautiful image—that even through the endless dunes: Life will bloom,
Water will rise,
Green will appear,
